Rathmullan’s 185th Annual Regatta, takes place on Monday, August 6

Rathmullan’s 185th Annual Regatta, will take place in the seaside village on Monday next August 6th 2018. And to mark this great occasion, there is a fantastic programme of maritime events and entertainment planned, including a visit from an Irish Navy Ship, and a spectacular rescue demonstration on the water, by RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard helicopter.

And there’s a great walk down memory lane with Arthur Lynch, will be showing a vintage film with a selection of footage of past Regatta Days – a who’s who of Rathmullan’s past community.

From Regatta Racing and the Parade of Boats to Fancy Dress Contest and entertainment by the Caledonian Pipe Band, Trevor Loughrey and Eldorado, it will be a great day out for the whole family.

The first Rathmullan Regatta took place in 1833, and always falls on the first Monday in August – and has always been a special occasion.

It’s a great day for reuniting friends and family who return every year to their seaside home from all over the World.

Everyone makes it home for Regatta Day in Rathmullan – a day that has been responsible for making happy memories for the past 185 years.

Last year saw the return of the navy vessels to Rathmullan, with a visit from the LÉ James Joyce, and over 1700 people stepped aboard.

And many more are expected to visit the Navy Vessel this Regatta Day.

It’s a day where we can appreciate the strong maritime history connected with Rathmullan.

John Gallagher from Rathmullan Sailing Club, takes up the story:

‘This year’s Annual Regatta promises to be a great day out for all the family and everyone will be very welcome to Rathmullan. It is always a special occasion and it is a privilege to be part of an event which stretches back 185 years, and which is so rooted in our history and heritage””
