Milford GAA Notes

*Intermediate Championship Final Replay*

CLG BnaG v Burt

O’Donnell Park, Saturday @ 4.30pm

After an exciting draw last Sunday Na Galloglaigh and Burt will have to do it all over again this Saturday. The sides drew 1-7 to 0-10 in O’Donnell Park and it will be the same venue again this Saturday at 4.30pm. The support was fantastic last week and hopefully it will be just as good for the replay. Don’t forget you can get flags and bunting in McMahons Todays Extra, Main St Milford. The winners of this game will then have to play Bredagh of Down in the Ulster Championship on the Sunday at 2pm, also in O’Donnell Park.

*Reserve Championship*
CLG BnaG 1-10 Fanad Gaels 1-11

Our Reserves bowed out of the Championship at the semi-final stage following a 1 point defeat to Fanad on Saturday. It was a similar game to the group stage match last month in which Fanad also came from behind to win by a point. Played in perfect conditions in Downings, Na Galloglaigh had the aid of a breeze in the first half and got the first two scores of the game through Enda McHugh and Paul Fisher. Fanad responded with 2 points of their own to draw level before a Gary Helferty free gave Na Galloglaigh the lead again. The rest of the half was end to end with points being traded by both sides, however Na Galloglaigh didn’t take full advantage of the breeze and their possession and were disappointed to be only 2 points ahead come half time, 0-7 to 0-5. Na Galloglaigh started the second half the better and had the first 3 attacks of the half but the chances were not taken. Fanad came back into it and drew level with 2 points before a Caolan Boltonpoint put Na Galloglaigh back into the lead. Once again Fanad equalized, but a Marty Doyle goal gave Na Galloglaigh a more comfortable lead. A Fanad point reduced the deficit to 2 and they were then given a lifeline when awarded a penalty after one of their players was pulled down in the square as he was about to shoot for goal. Davitt Walsh scored the penalty to put Fanad into the lead for the first time in the game. But Na Galloglaigh responded well and moved back into the lead with points from Adam Serrinha and Dean Burgess. But as in the group game, Fanad got the last 2 scores of the game through Aidan McAterr and a Davitt Walsh free. Na Galloglaigh had the last attack of the game but were unable to get the equalizing score. The ref blew the final whistle after less than a minute of injury time in a game that had multiple stoppages. Na Galloglaigh were bitterly disappointed to lose a game that could have went either way and give their best wishes to our naighbours Fanad Gaels in their final in 2 weeks’ time. Team: Gavin McFadden, Gearoid Horkan, Paul Grier, Cormac Friel, Kieran Sheridan, Enda McHugh (0-2), Dean Burgess (0-1), Paul Sweeney (0-1), Kieran Gorman, Ryan Ferry, Caolan Bolton (0-1), Ciaran McHugh, Paul Fisher (0-1), Martin Doyle (1-1), Gary Helferty (0-2). Subs: Patrick Ferry & James Doyle for R. Ferry & Helferty (HT), Kieran McLaughlin for C. McHugh (40m), Tony McGettigan for Horkan (45m), Matthew Stewart for Friel (BC, 52m), Adam Serrinha (0-1) for Gorman (BC, 54m), Emmet Conaghan, Shane McBride, James McCallum, Sean McHugh, Conall McFadden

*U16 Ladies Final*
CLG BnaG 1-15 Naomh Conaill 2-4
Our U16 girls are through to an U16A Final for the first time since the club was formed after a very exciting match against Naomh Conaill. The girls put in a brilliant second half performance to overcome the current county champions. Despite being reduced to 14 players twice in the game the girls showed guts, heart, determination and skill to win on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-4.Their reward is a county final next weekend against St Eunans and it is no more than they deserve for the effort they have put in all season. Details of the final will be announced during the week and hopefully we can get a great crowd out to cheer on the girls. The management would like to thank everyone who came out to support the girls on Saturday, it meant a lot to the girls and definitely helped carry them over the line
