Investigation into yesterday's Ballybofey crash continues as two tragic women named

The two young women who died in yesterday’s tragic crash outside Ballybofey have been named locally as Kiara Baird, 19, and Maria Wallace-Carlin, 38.

The women were in a car which struck a pole on the Glenfin Road around 4.30pm.

The pair died from their injuries while a man who was also in the blue Citreon C3 car is being treated at Letterkenny University Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

A full forensic examination of the scene took place yesterday and the road was reopened to traffic last night.

Although both women were not from Co Donegal, they lived locally in Ballybofey.

Kiara is understood to be originally from Dublin while Maria, a mum of three boys, is understood to be from Derry originally.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time near the townland of Camish and who may have witnessed the single-vehicle crash to come forward.

The women’s deaths means that ten people have now died on Donegal’s roads so far this year.
