Kilcar v CLG BnaG
Towney, Sunday @ 3pm

Good Luck to our Senior and Reserve sides who travel to Towney at the weekend to play Kilcar. Throw in on Sunday for the Seniors is at 3pm with the Reserves at 1.30pm.

Naomh Conaill 3-15 CLG BnaG 2-12

Our Reserves made the trip to Glenties on Friday night to face Naomh Conaill but it was the home side who ran out 6 point winners in the end. The 1st half was an even affair with very little between the sides. Na Galloglaigh did enjoy some good periods of play but were guilty of taking the wrong option at times with their shots at goal. Naomh Conaill were a bit more economical with their shot selection and their goal midway through the first half was enough to give them a 1 point lead at half time with Na Galloglaigh scores coming from Kane Barrett (3), Martin Doyle (3) and Anthony Fisher (1). Andreas Afxentiou did have a goal chance just before half time but the Naomh Conaill keeper made a good one on one save. HT 1-5 to 0-7. The 1st half performance gave Na Gallogaigh confidence going into the 2nd half but it was the Glenties men who upped their performance. Their strength around the middle third and direct running at the defence was causing trouble for the visitors. They scored the first 4 points of the half and to open a comfortable lead. Na Galloglaigh did respond when Pauric Curley’s run through the heart of the Naomh Conaill defence resulted in a goal. But Naomh Conaill then got their 2nd goal of game soon after to stretch their lead again. There were 5 points between the sides with 5 minutes remaining and Na Galloglaigh did stage a mini comeback with Barrett & Doyle adding to their tallies to reduce deficit to 3 points entering injury time. Na Galloglaigh won a 45’ which was dropped into the square as they searched for an equaliser but the ball was won by a Naomh Conaill defender and they worked the ball the length of field resulting in their 3rd goal of the game to finish the game as a contest. Team: Caolan Bolton, Tony McGettigan, Paul Grier, Brandon Toye, Kieran Sheridan, Gavin Grier, Cormac Friel, Enda McHugh, Anthony Fisher (0-1), Patrick Ferry, Kane Barrett (0-6), Ryan Ferry, Martin Doyle (1-5), Andreas Afxentiou, James Doyle. Subs: Barry McNulty & Pauric Curley for McGettigan & P. Ferry (h/t), Dylan Hegarty for R. Ferry (45m), Paddy Mc Carron for Afxentiou (52m), James Mc Callum, Matthew Stewart.

*U14 Girls*

Our U14 girls played their final home game of their league campaign against Gweedore on Sunday evening. Going into the game the teams were in joint second place – level on points. The girls displayed some great skill against a good Gweedore team to run out as eventual winners on a scoreline of 5-9 to 5-4. There were some great individual performances – Anna McFadden and Aleah Deery scored 2 goals each with the other coming from the ever reliable Kelsey McAteer. The quick and accurate movement of the ball by Anna Russell, Danielle Kerr and Aisling McCormack ensured that the scoring opportunities were set up and taken. Caitlin McGlynn, Kirsty Carr and Leah McCleary were very tenacious in their tackling, turning over the ball on numerous occasions, Katelyn Hosford was very dangerous on the attack and she scored a great individual point, Aisling Patton Gallagher was steady in goals and Mia Ferry, Lauren McBride, Celine Callaghan and Orla McCleary were also instrumental in this victory but it was the second half performance of the very steady full back line of Leah Afxentiou, Aine Docherty and Katie Mills who deserve a special mention, they were playing against a stiff breeze and still managed to close down the attacking forwards from Gweedore on most occasions. The next match is away to Glenswilly on Saturday (27th May) at 11am with their final match of the league campaign on Tuesday June 5th away to Glenfin at 6pm. After the game, Aileen Afxentiou presented a new set of jerseys, kindly sponsored by the Coffee Factory in Letterkenny, to be used by the U14 girls and boys. The Club wishes to express it’s gratitude to the Afxentiou family for their generosity and asks all members to support our sponsors whenever possible.

*U14 Boys*

Our U14s played their first game of the season at home to St Eunans last Thursday in which they were very unfortunate to get beat by a very good St Eunans team. With a point between the teams going into the last few minutes Na Galloglaigh had a number of chances to win the game but luck wasn't with them on the night. It was a great team effort by everyone with young Odhran Doherty outstanding and Finnian Coll causing lots of bother when brought on. The Club would like to thank the Coffee Factory for their generous sponsorship of new jerseys for the team.
